aspect.off-target

Image aspect ratio is off the card's crop target. Level: Warning.

When it is raised

Raised when the API could read the image's width and height and the ratio of width to height is outside the band for the card type. With twitter:card set to exactly summary_large_image, or with no twitter:card or an empty one, the target is 1.91:1 and the check fires below 1.66:1 or above 2.16:1. With any other twitter:card value except player and app, including a misspelt or differently cased value such as Summary_Large_Image, the target is 1:1 and it fires below 0.85:1 or above 1.15:1.

What it does to a shared link

X's Cards documentation, since withdrawn, described the summary_large_image card as cropping the image to about 1.91:1 and the summary card to about 1:1, so the parts of an image outside that shape would be cut from the card. A page with no twitter:card is judged here against the summary_large_image target. player and app cards are not judged against either target.

How to fix it

  1. For a summary_large_image card, export the image at 1200×630 px (1.90:1). If the page has no twitter:card, also set it to summary_large_image.
  2. For a summary card, export a square image, for example 600×600 px.
  3. If the image is between 1.66:1 and 2.16:1 and twitter:card is summary, set twitter:card to summary_large_image.
  4. Set twitter:card to exactly summary_large_image or summary, in lower case, to match the image's shape.
  5. Point og:image at the re-exported file.
