card.missing

twitter:card is missing. Level: Warning.

When it is raised

Raised when no twitter:card tag with a value is found in the first 300,000 characters of the HTML, outside comments. Only the first twitter:card tag that has a content attribute is read; if its content is empty or whitespace, that tag counts as absent even when a later twitter:card tag has a value. The tag is matched on either a name or a property attribute, case-insensitively. It is raised whether or not the page has an image.

What it does to a shared link

twitter:card names the card type, such as summary or summary_large_image. X's Cards documentation, since withdrawn, described X as reading twitter:* tags with og:* as a fallback, summary_large_image as cropping the image to about 1.91:1, and the summary card as cropping it to about 1:1.

How to fix it

  1. Add a twitter:card meta tag inside <head>.
  2. Use summary_large_image for a wide image (1,200 × 630 px is about 1.91:1), or summary for a square one.
  3. Keep og:title, og:description and og:image as they are: twitter:card does not replace them.
<meta name="twitter:card" content="summary_large_image">
