title.missing
Title is missing. Level: Error.
When it is raised
Raised when no title is found in og:title, twitter:title or a <title> element in the first 300,000 characters of the HTML, outside comments. A meta tag counts only when it has a property or name attribute and a content attribute. Only the first og:title tag that has a content attribute is read; if its content is empty or whitespace, that tag counts as absent even when a later og:title has a value. twitter:title is read the same way. Values are trimmed before entities are decoded, so whitespace written as a character reference counts as content. The <title> read is the first one in that window whose text contains no "<" character, wherever it sits, so an SVG <title> in the body can be the one read; if its text is empty or whitespace, no title comes from <title>.
What it does to a shared link
No title was found in og:title, twitter:title or <title>. LinkedIn and WhatsApp document og:title as the title tag, and Facebook's sharing guide documents og:* tags.
How to fix it
- Add an og:title meta tag inside <head>, with a property attribute and a non-empty content attribute holding the headline the card should show.
- Keep a non-empty <title> element as well, since it is the last source the API looks at.
- If head.truncated was also raised, check whether a title tag sits beyond the first 300,000 characters and move the card tags nearer the top of <head>.
