When it is raised
Raised when the page has no og:description, twitter:description or <meta name="description"> tag with a non-empty value in the first 300,000 characters of the HTML, outside comments. For each of these names only the first tag that has a content attribute is read; if its content is empty or whitespace, that tag counts as absent even when a later tag of the same name has a value.
What it does to a shared link
The page supplies no summary text for a card.
How to fix it
- Add an og:description meta tag to the page's <head> with one or two sentences summarising the page.
- Keep it between 100 and 200 characters, the range in which the API raises no length finding.
- If an earlier og:description tag on the page is empty, remove it or give it the text, since only the first one is read.
- If the API also reports head.truncated, check whether the tag already exists beyond the first 300,000 characters before adding a second one.
