Description is under 100 characters. Level: Tip.
When it is raised
Raised when the description is present and fewer than 100 characters long. The description is the first non-empty value of og:description, twitter:description and <meta name="description">, trimmed, and characters are counted as user-perceived characters (grapheme clusters), so an emoji or a flag counts as one. A description under 50 characters raises both this and description.short.
What it does to a shared link
LinkedIn's Post Inspector warns "The description should be at least 100 characters long". The card still renders in full.
How to fix it
- Lengthen the description to at least 100 characters, for example by adding a second sentence; set og:description if the page does not have one.
- Stay at 200 characters or fewer, so the change does not raise description.long.
<meta property="og:description" content="A one- or two-sentence summary of what this page offers the reader, written to fall between 100 and 200 characters.">
