description.short

Description is short. Level: Tip.

When it is raised

Raised when the description is present but fewer than 50 characters long. The description is the first non-empty value of og:description, twitter:description and <meta name="description">, trimmed, and characters are counted as user-perceived characters (grapheme clusters), so an emoji or a flag counts as one. A description this short also raises description.under-linkedin-min.

What it does to a shared link

The summary line of the card says little about the page.

How to fix it

  1. Expand the description to one or two full sentences between 100 and 200 characters; from 50 to 99 characters description.under-linkedin-min still applies.
  2. Say what the reader gets from the page rather than repeating the title.
<meta property="og:description" content="A one- or two-sentence summary of what this page offers the reader, written to fall between 100 and 200 characters.">
