url.missing

og:url is missing. Level: Warning.

When it is raised

Raised when no og:url tag with a value is found in the first 300,000 characters of the HTML, outside comments. Only the first og:url tag that has a content attribute is read; if its content is empty or whitespace, that tag counts as absent even when a later og:url tag has a value. The tag is matched on either a property or a name attribute, case-insensitively.

What it does to a shared link

The card declares no canonical address. LinkedIn lists og:url among the tags it supports, and WhatsApp's link preview documentation lists og:url among the tags it reads.

How to fix it

  1. Add one og:url meta tag inside <head> whose content is the page's canonical address, and remove any empty og:url tag that comes before it.
  2. Write it as an absolute URL with its scheme and host. A relative value such as /about, or a protocol-relative value such as //example.com/page, cannot be parsed as a URL and raises url.other-host instead.
  3. Use the page's final URL, after redirects, so that url.other-host and url.other-path are not raised in its place.
<meta property="og:url" content="https://example.com/page/">
