More than one og:image tag. Level: Warning.

When it is raised

Raised when the image loads and more than one meta tag with a content attribute has a property or name of og:image (matched case-insensitively), counted in the first 300,000 characters of the HTML, outside comments. A tag whose content is empty is counted too. The count does not stop at </head>, so og:image tags in the body within that window are included. og:image:url, og:image:width and other og:image: properties are not counted. The message gives the number found.

What it does to a shared link

The API takes its image from the first og:image tag and does not check the others. If that first tag's content is empty or whitespace, it counts as absent even when a later og:image tag has a value, and the API uses og:image:url, then twitter:image, then twitter:image:src instead, so none of the og:image tags is the one checked.

How to fix it

  1. Remove every og:image tag except the one you want shown.
  2. If a theme or plugin adds a default og:image and the page adds its own, turn off one of them so only one is emitted.
  3. Rebuild or re-run the check and confirm the message no longer appears.
