image.bad-scheme

Image URL uses a scheme other than http or https. Level: Error.

When it is raised

Raised when the page's image value parses as a URL whose scheme is not http or https, for example data:, javascript:, mailto: or ftp:. The image value is the first non-empty one of og:image, og:image:url, twitter:image and twitter:image:src, read in the first 300,000 characters of the HTML, outside comments, and resolved against the page's final URL, after redirects. The message names the scheme found.

What it does to a shared link

The API does not fetch the value, so no image is measured and none of the other image checks run. The result carries no image URL for the page.

How to fix it

  1. Replace the tag's value with an absolute https URL that points at a PNG or JPEG file.
  2. If the image is currently a data: URI, save it as a file, publish it on your site and reference that file's URL.
  3. Check twitter:image as well as og:image, since either can supply the value this check reads.
