image.unreachable

Image URL could not be reached. Level: Warning.

When it is raised

Raised when the API's crawler gets no HTTP status for the image: the connection is refused or fails (including a TLS failure), a request gets no response within 4 seconds, the 6.5-second budget shared by the page and image requests runs out, the response body sends no bytes within 4 seconds, the request is redirected 8 or more times, or a redirect leads to a URL that is not http or https.

What it does to a shared link

No image was received, so no image dimensions, size or crop are measured and the image checks that depend on a loaded image do not run. The API still requests robots.txt from the image host, because that file is fetched separately; the robots.txt checks report nothing if it cannot be fetched either.

How to fix it

  1. Request the image URL from outside your network and confirm it responds within a few seconds.
  2. Check that the image host accepts https connections and has a valid certificate.
  3. Remove redirect chains by pointing the tag straight at the image's final URL.
  4. Run the check again to rule out a temporary network fault.
